Final rites of journalist Kumanan’s father tomorrow in Vanni

A staunch Tamil National activist and father of senior Tamil journalist Kumanan, Sellappa Kanapathipillai passed away in Mullaitivu district on New Year day.

He passed away after prolonged illness with his family by his side.

Late Sellappa Kanapathypillai was an employee in the animal husbandry department as a technical expert. He is survived by five sons and a daughter.

His father’s remains are now lying at his home in Mulliawalai. The last rites are scheduled at 2 PM on tomorrow (2) at the Thamaraikeni Hindu cemetery in Kumulamunai.

His son and acclaimed photo journalist working in the war-affected Vanni area, Kumanan is also the President of the Mullaitivu Press Club. Kumanan’s work published in global media outlets has drawn international attention to gross human rights violations and abuses in the north apart from exposing ongoing corruptions in the war torn area.
